Wallpaper has made an incredible resurgence in the past few years, especially in America thanks to the numerous home improvement shows on TV. While wall coverings have always been more commonplace in Europe, Americans largely abandoned the use of wallpaper in the 1970s and 1980s. Looking back at some of the amazing retro designs of wall coverings installed in vintage homes there are sure to be people that wish they’d never removed or painted over wallpaper during a renovation. However the new wallpapers are nothing like the old vinyl or thin paper coverings that were once used. They’re now available in materials and textures there were unheard of in the past, and wallpaper has never looked better!
The wallpaper / wall coverings made today are enhanced with metallics, embossing, bold patterns, lifelike images, fabric textures and most importantly are more eco-friendly than old vinyl wallpaper. It’s also no surprise that with the new modern wallpapers, they’re significantly more expensive.

Our Favorite Peel & Stick Wall covering :
Just a side note. While peel and stick wallpaper and wall coverings have come a long way in a few years, there are definitely disadvantages (and a few advantages) to applying this type of wallpaper. Mainly the fact that most consumers see this as an easy way to cover their walls without hiring a professional paper hanger. Unfortunately many manufactures that print or make self adhesive wallpaper don’t pattern match very well making it a challenge for the DIY installation to look good when finished. All too often after purchasing expensive peel and stick wall coverings, a customer will end up hiring a professional. So unless you’re particularly handy, peel and stick is not a substitute for hiring a professional wallpaper hanger. Consider yourself warned!
